What it does

Built for fleets, not single miners.

Updating Antminers one web page at a time doesn't scale. This tool handles the scanning, file matching, uploading and verification across a whole site.

01 · SCAN
Whole subnets in seconds
Enter a range, a CIDR subnet or several saved ranges at once, up to 65,536 addresses. 75 parallel workers by default. Scanning changes nothing on the miners.
02 · MATCH
Right file for every board
Reads each miner's model, control board and current version, then picks the matching .bmu file. Merged multi-board files such as the S19k Pro are handled too.
03 · TEST
Test-first by design
"Update test miners" flashes a few units per board type first. Check their hashrate, then roll out to the rest with confidence.
04 · FLASH
Parallel updates, verified
Uploads run in parallel with a limit you choose. Turn on Verify after flashing and each miner is re-checked after its reboot, so you see Updated, not just Uploaded.
05 · KEEP
Pools and settings kept
"Keep miner settings" is on by default. If you turn it off, a separate red warning appears before any factory reset.
06 · STOP
Safe stop, force-abort
Stop takes effect immediately for queued miners. A miner mid-upload finishes its transfer instead of being cut off, because that is what bricks units.
07 · CONTROL
Restart, sleep, wake
Select miners and reboot them, or pause and resume mining without touching firmware. Confirmation prompts protect against large accidental batches.
08 · INVENTORY
Mixed-fleet inventory
Also detects WhatsMiner, Avalon, Sealminer, Braiins OS, LuxOS and Auradine. Every scan saves to inventory.csv and a per-miner history.
09 · CLI
Command-line included
The same engine as a console app, reading the same saved ranges. Useful for scripts, scheduled jobs or headless machines.
How it works

From zip to updated fleet in four steps.

Download and unzip
No installer. Unzip the whole folder (keep _internal next to the exes) and run MMB-FirmwareUpdater.exe. First run? See the SmartScreen note.

Add official firmware
Download the .bmu files for your models from Bitmain's firmware page and put them next to the app, or in a firmware subfolder.

Scan your network
Enter an IP range or subnet. Every miner is listed as Needs update, Up to date, Login failed, Not stock firmware and so on.

Test, then roll out
Update test miners, check hashrate after 10–15 minutes, then click Update all needing update.

What it updates, and what it only sees.

Firmware flashing is for Bitmain miners on stock firmware. Other brands show up in the scan for inventory and basic control.

How to check the hash on Windows

Open PowerShell in the download folder and run:

Get-FileHash .\MMB-FirmwareUpdater_260930.1451.zip -Algorithm SHA256

The result must match the zip hash above exactly. After unzipping, SHA256SUMS.txt inside the folder lists the hash of every file, including everything in _internal.

"Windows protected your PC"?

The app isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen can't show a verified publisher. Click More info → Run anyway.

The app is a packaged Python program. A few antivirus engines flag that packaging style generically, which is a known false positive. The VirusTotal links above show the current results from 70+ engines for these exact files.

Windows Defender says "Trojan:Win32/Wacatac"?

That is a known false positive. The !ml at the end of the name means Defender's machine-learning model flagged the file because of how it is packaged (a Python app bundled with PyInstaller); no actual malware signature matched. We have reported build 260930.1451 to Microsoft as an incorrect detection and will remove this note once it is cleared.

Before you allow it, compare the file's SHA-256 with the table above. If it matches, the file is exactly what we published. If Defender has already quarantined it:

  1. Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history.
  2. Select the Wacatac entry for MMB-FirmwareUpdater.exe (or -cli.exe).
  3. Click Actions → Allow on device (or Restore), then unzip again if the file is missing.

FAQ

Questions operators ask.

Is it really free?
Yes. It's freeware: no account, no licence key, no trial and no limit on miners. We built it for our own sites and share it with the mining community.
Does it include Bitmain firmware?
No. Download the official .bmu files for your models from Bitmain's support site and put them next to the app or in a firmware subfolder. Using Bitmain's own files means you always flash the genuine release.
Which Antminer models are supported?
Antminer models on stock Bitmain firmware that accept .bmu upgrade files, including the S19 and S21 families. The tool matches files by model and control board, so a miner only shows as updatable when you've loaded a file for it. Miners on VNish, Braiins OS or LuxOS are detected but not flashed.
Will it reset my pools and worker names?
Not by default. Keep miner settings is on and preserves pools, worker names, passwords and network settings. If you switch it off, a separate warning appears before flashing.
Can a miner be bricked?
Any firmware flash carries some risk. The tool reduces it: test-first updates, no cutting off uploads mid-write, refusal of truncated files, and optional verification after reboot. Never power off a miner while it's updating, and always update a few test units first.
Does it send data anywhere?
No. It only talks to miners on your local network. There is no telemetry, no login and no cloud. Results are saved locally to inventory.csv and history.db, and miner passwords are never written to disk.
Why does Windows or my antivirus warn about it?
The app isn't code-signed yet, and some antivirus engines flag packaged Python apps generically. Compare the SHA-256 checksum and check the VirusTotal reports for the exact files.
Windows Defender says it's "Trojan:Win32/Wacatac". Is it safe?
That detection is a known machine-learning false positive for packaged Python apps (the !ml suffix means no real malware signature matched). We've reported it to Microsoft. Check that the SHA-256 matches the one on this page, then restore the file from Windows Security → Protection history. Step-by-step instructions.
Is there a command-line version?
Yes. MMB-FirmwareUpdater-cli.exe uses the same engine and the same saved ranges, so it works in scripts and scheduled tasks.
